The session was moderated by Alina Ustinova, Senior Manager of the IT Export Promotion Project Office of the Center for Global IT Cooperation. The speakers were Lev Pestrenin (Deputy Head of Department, researcher at the Diagnostics and Telemedicine Center of the Moscow Health Department), Igor Sergeyev (Federal Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence), Irina Pantina (Director of Public Sector Relations at Positive Technologies), Gabriella Marchella (CEO of SG Impact Ventures AG) and James Amattey (Norenson IT).
Lev Pestrenin shared Moscow's successful experience in applying artificial intelligence to analyze radiological images. This reduced data processing time and improved the quality of diagnosis. Igor Sergeyev presented an overview of health monitoring technologies such as wearable devices for analyzing cardiovascular parameters and remote patient monitoring. He emphasized their importance in improving access to medical care, especially in remote regions.
Irina Panina drew attention to the risks of data leaks and threats associated with remote control of devices affecting the human body. She proposed comprehensive measures to improve IoB security, including the implementation of ESGC standards. Gabriella Marcella highlighted the social and economic consequences of the introduction of IoB technologies, including the possible deepening of social inequality and the need to develop ethical standards. James Amattey emphasized the importance of international regulation and raising public awareness of the risks and opportunities of using IoB.
Speakers covered a wide range of IoB technologies, including wearable devices, implantable medical devices, biometric scanners, smart clothing, and even brain-machine interfaces. These technologies are capable of collecting a variety of data, from physiological parameters to biochemical information, which creates both new opportunities and serious risks for users. Special attention was paid to the practice of biohacking, which is gaining popularity as a way to independently improve biological processes and data analysis. However, discussion participants stressed the need to address issues of security, ethics and privacy.
Separately, there was a discussion of the prospect of a third generation of IoB devices that integrate with the human body so deeply that the question arises: how can a person stay offline if the Internet becomes his/her physical part? The participants expressed concerns that such technologies could be used for harmful purposes, such as continuous surveillance or manipulation.
The participants agreed that the IoB is on the threshold of a new era, which requires a detailed analysis and development of global regulatory mechanisms. This is especially important to prevent abuse and create ethical standards that promote the safe and fair use of technology.
The IGF 2024 is being held in Riyadh from December 15 to 19, bringing together participants from different countries to discuss key issues on the digital agenda and develop global solutions.
