The Center for Global IT Cooperation jointly with the FSAI “FCDAAI” with the support of the Russian Trade Mission in Morocco held a webinar on the prospects for Russian IT companies to enter the market of Morocco, as well as the countries of the Middle East and North Africa. Leading experts discussed the potential of the Moroccan market, key challenges and optimal entrance strategies. The discussion was moderated by Alim Khapov, an employee of the Center, manager of the IT export support and development project.
Advantages of Morocco as an IT Market
According to the Russian Trade Mission in Morocco, the country has a well-developed Internet infrastructure: 98% of the population uses mobile phones, more than 90% use the Internet. The Digital Morocco 2030 state strategy is aimed at digitalizing the economy, which creates opportunities for Russian companies in the fields of cybersecurity, telemedicine, agricultural technologies and smart cities.
Support for Exporters
Alexey Sazhinov, Head of the Project Office of the Digital Attache Service, spoke about the possibilities of supporting Russian companies, including consultations on entering the market, analyzing the competitive environment and supporting participation in international exhibitions. Yaroslav Yakubov (Russian Export Center JSC), Vasily Zudin (Center for Global IT Cooperation ANCO) and Lyudmila Pikalova (Moscow Export Center ANCO) presented acceleration programs, support measures and financial instruments for exporters.
Practical Experience and Recommendations
Yuri Shurygin (De la Rey Consulting Company) shared his experience working with Moroccan clients, emphasizing the importance of knowing French and taking into account local business traditions. According to him, for successful cooperation, it is necessary to adapt presentation materials and prepare personalized commercial offers in French and English.
The speakers noted that Russian companies can occupy niches in the fields of software development, cloud solutions and digital finance, as these areas are actively developing in Morocco. However, it is important to take into account the competition from Western countries, which have historically strengthened their positions in the region.
The experts also touched upon the issues of bank settlements, noting that difficulties with transfers require a well-thought-out business strategy. Solutions include working through local partners and using international financial instruments.
The Center for Global IT Cooperation invites companies to participate in a Digital Mission to Morocco, timed to coincide with the Gitex Africa exhibition, which will be held on April 14-16. The call for applications is open till April 4. Meetings with leading vendors, system integrators and potential customers are planned as part of the mission.
