The RIGF-2024 Has Come to an End

Editorial Board of the Center for Global IT Cooperation
The second day of RIGF 2023 was opened by the Virtuti Interneti (For Services to the Internet) award ceremony, established by the Coordination Center in 2010. This year's award went to Alexey Lukatsky, one of Russia's most renowned information security specialists, in fact, a cybersecurity evangelist, not only on a Russian but also on a global scale. He has been in the industry for over 30 years and has been an IS business consultant for Positive Technologies since 2022.

"I've been doing cybersecurity, and before that information security, for longer than Runet has existed. And the internet speeds we have now, back then, seemed impossible. But information security has existed and will continue to exist independently of the internet and technology because it protects information. But the internet has added a lot, both on the positive and negative side, and in the area of cyber security, among others," he said while receiving the award.

At the "Inclusiveness - a New Reality" workshop, participants discussed accessibility criteria for websites and mobile applications and spoke about what digital products and online services are being developed in Russia for physically challenged users. Sergey Grebennikov (RAEC), workshop moderator, reminded that the inclusive approach allows making digital products and resources accessible to all users, including physically challenged people or people with disabilities. "But we should not forget that inclusivity is a story related not only to physical abilities, but it is also language barriers and problems with access to the network," concluded Sergey Grebennikov.

In the "Ecology and Sustainable Development" block we talked about how technologies can contribute to the reduction of environmental damage: tools for monitoring and assessment, application of existing and creation of new technologies and solutions for environmental protection.

During the "Data Governance and Trust" workshop we discussed the issues of trust and trusted intermediaries, regulatory regulation of data governance processes. The speakers have agreed that the key challenge here is to find new legal mechanisms that would ensure the free yet secure exchange of data between all participants in the ecosystem, as well as protect the rights and interests of data subjects and owners.

At the end of the day, the Centre for Global IT Cooperation presented a collection of author's articles, "Internet Today and Tomorrow", which was prepared especially for the RIGF-2024. For the third year in a row, the Center has been gathering the opinions of various industry experts on the current challenges in the information space and digital economy, the problems of introducing and using end-to-end technologies, and the tasks of strengthening the Russian segment of the Internet and the IT industry as a whole. The collection is published to intensify inter-institutional dialogue among specialists and to give a new impetus to expert discussion on topical issues of digitalization and development of Internet technologies, including the development of balanced positions and priorities for Russia's effective participation in international cooperation in modern conditions.

The Forum was held on April 9-10, 2023 in a hybrid format and was attended by industry experts, businessmen, government and public figures. The Forum was organized by the .RU/.RF Coordination Center and the Competence Center for Global IT Cooperation with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
