Arabian Peninsula Opens Its Doors to Russian Business

Editorial Board of the Center for Global IT Cooperation

The speakers of the intensive workshop were Tatiana Rusetskaya, Manager of the Employer and Individual Services Group of DRT, Yulia Sivova, Senior Manager of the Employer and Individual Services Group of DRT, Rustam Vakhitov, international tax expert, founder of the BEPS Academy project, and Mikhail Kudryavtsev, Digital Attaché of the Russian Federation in the UAE.

In his welcoming speech, Vadim Glushchenko, Director of the Center, spoke about the international activities of the organization, in particular, about a new project - a marketplace of domestic digital solutions. It should become a tool for finding potential customers and independently promoting Russian IT solutions in foreign countries. It also provides useful tips and step-by-step instructions for foreign companies and investors on opening and doing business in Russia itself.

Mikhail Kudryavtsev devoted his speech to the prospects of the Arab Emirates market for the Russian IT business. He noted that the UAE is now seeing a shift from an oil economy to a data economy. "'In this regard, the Emirates seeks to become a global center and a frontrunner for next-generation technologies, and in particular, the country is interested in leadership in AI. All this, coupled with its geographical location and extensive bilateral trade agreements with other countries, makes the UAE a hub for accessing other markets in the region, including ICT," he concluded.

DRT specialists, in their turn, told about the peculiarities of taxation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the specifics of migration legislation - the conditions and composition of the required package of documents to employ a foreign citizen and obtain a labor visa or digital nomad visa.

Rustam Vakhitov told how artificial intelligence tools can help businesses entering new markets to find information on tax and legal regimes of unfamiliar jurisdictions, demonstrated the work of one of such databases with information on taxation in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, where the virtual video assistant, Xenia, answered a number of questions.
