Events of the main EEF program start in Vladivostok

The main program of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), which will take place for the 7th time, starts on Tuesday, September 6, on Russky Island (Vladivostok).

The EEF will bring together participants from over 60 countries, including the unfriendly ones, such as Japan and South Korea. According to the organizing committee, nearly 4000 delegates and media representatives are expected to attend the event. Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic Alexei Chekunkov stated earlier that unfriendly Western countries were trying to put pressure on the states whose delegations were to participate in the forum.

The EEF takes place on 5–8 September at the Far Eastern Federal University campus. RIA Novosti is the general information partner of the event.

Safety measures

To access the venue, EEF participants must take a PCR test for COVID-19. Additional PCR testing is carried out for the plenary session attendees. Foreign participants must bring a document confirming a negative PCR test result, obtained no earlier than two days before arrival in Russia, and retake the test in one of the testing centers located in Russia. However, isolation upon arrival is not required.

At the EEF venue, preventive measures recommended by Rospotrebnadzor, such as thermal monitoring, air disinfection, and treatment of transport with special disinfectant solutions, are being implemented.

During the EEF, Super Typhoon Hinnamnor will unleash rains and strong wind in Vladivostok, according to the Primorsky Directorate for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. City authorities informed that pupils of municipal schools would be allowed to skip class.

Business program

The business program of this year’s forum includes over 70 events, divided into six key thematic pillars: “Russia’s Place in the World: Diamonds Are Made under Pressure,” “Financial Markets: What Holds Value When There Is a Loss of Confidence,” “Creating a New Quality of Life for People,” “The Global Division of Labor: From Old Connections to New,” “Everyone Has Their Own Route: The Logistics of a Changed World,” and “Patriotism over Tolerance.”

A meeting of the Russian-Chinese Business Council and several business dialogues (Russia—India, Russia—ASEAN, Russia—Viet Nam, and Russia—Mongolia) are also expected to be held.

As per tradition, the plenary session will be the key event of the forum’s program.

Plenary session

The forum’s plenary session is planned to be held on September 7 and start at 3 p.m. local time (8 a.m. Moscow time). Russian President Vladimir Putin will speak at the session, which will also be attended by Chairman of the State Administrative Council, Prime Minister of the Provisional Government, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Li Zhanshu.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will deliver video greetings to the participants of the session.

On Tuesday, the Russian President will chair an expanded meeting of the Presidium of the State Council on the development of the national tourism industry under current conditions and speak with the moderators of the key sessions in the run-up to the plenary session.

Sports program

The sports program of the EEF 2022 will be held under the Vladivostok Open brand and include 12 events from 10 different sports. A skateboarding championship, sailing regattas, a boxing match, chess tournament, and mas-wrestling competition featuring foreign players and fighters, a rowing regatta, canoe and kayak races as well as a traditional run dedicated to rare animals of the Far East will be held during the forum.

Grandmasters from 10 countries as well as a team comprising Russian and Far Eastern chess players will compete for the EEF Cup in the International Chess Tournament. A parade of sails of Russia, featuring the Nadezhda and Pallada training frigates and cruising yachts of all classes, including those for the children’s competition, will take place in Vladivostok as well.

Also, the “Far East—Land of Adventure” tourism promotion competition, which will be held throughout the year and will have finished by the next EEF edition, is planned to be launched at the forum.

Cultural program

A wide range of cultural events will take place during the days of the EEF in Vladivostok, for example, the Vladivostok Seasons festival, photography exhibitions, classic and contemporary music concerts. Some of the projects will be presented at the “Far East Street” venue—an exhibition on Russky Island featuring various regions of the Far Eastern Federal District.

On September 6 and 7, conductor Valery Gergiev will present two concert programs together with pianist Denis Matsuev, bass Ildar Abdrazakov, and the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The International Biennale of Visual Arts, which has been held in Vladivostok since 2013 and was scheduled for the days of the EEF 2022, will not take place due to the foreign participants’ withdrawal. A new, redesigned program will be presented in 2023. This year’s biennale was expected to showcase contemporary Russian and foreign art as well as include educational events, such as lectures, public discussions, and roundtables.

Far East Street

The “Far East Street” exhibition will be open, as per tradition, on Vladivostok’s waterfront at the Far Eastern Federal University campus during the EEF. Besides the pavilions of the 11 regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, the exhibition will showcase the Tourism.rf corporation pavilion and the Tiger House multimedia pavilion, dedicated to the II International Tiger Forum, both of which are new. Visitors will also see the exhibits of the Russian Helicopters holding, such as the Ka-62 helicopter by Progress Arsenyev Aviation Company and the Mi-8 helicopter, which will be presented at Buryatia’s exhibition venue. During the EEF, “Far East Street” will be open only for the event attendees; residents and visitors of the city will be able to visit the pavilions from 9 to 11 September.
