SPIEF 2022 starts in Saint Petersburg

The 25th anniversary edition of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held on 15–18 June and draw participants from over 90 countries. The main theme of this year’s SPIEF is seeking new opportunities in the changed world.

The forum’s main business program is divided into four thematic tracks dedicated to the topics of global and Russian economy, social and technology agenda and human capital development, the Roscongress Foundation—the forum’s organizer—has stated. 

The track titled “The New Economic Order: Responding to the Challenges of the Time” will include sessions dedicated to economic recovery and international cooperation within the SCO, BRICS and EAEU, the transformation of global trade, and business efficiency in the new reality in terms of logistics.

The second thematic track of the event’s business program, “The Russian Economy: New Objectives and Horizons,” is dedicated to the challenges the country has faced, including the crisis relief agenda and boosting the long-term potential of the economy. 

The “Modern Technology for Humanity: Building a Responsible Future” track will feature discussions on digital sovereignty, information security, and digitalization of various industries.

Participants of the “Investment in Development as Investment in People” track’s sessions will discuss human capital development, new skills gained by companies’ employees, and employment models.

Sessions devoted to the development of creative industries, sports and education are planned to be held at the forum as well.

The SPIEF 2022 will also host its traditional intercountry business dialogues featuring representatives of Africa, Belarus, Middle East, Europe, Egypt, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, and Latin America’s business communities as well as the EAEU—ASEAN dialogue.

The event’s business program will also include a breakfast for pharmaceutical companies’ representatives, Sber Business Breakfast, and IT breakfast.

Besides the main business program, the SPIEF will host the SME Forum, Youth Economic Forum, B20 Regional Consultation Forum, Creative Business Forum, Drug Security Forum, SPIEF Junior Dialogue, and the “Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” Forum.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will go to St. Petersburg on June 16 and hold an in-person meeting on the development of the automotive sector; on June 17, he will speak at the plenary session, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov has stated. 

In addition to that, Mr. Putin is expected to hold in-person meetings with large business personalities, military correspondents, and heads of Russian TV media.

As for international leaders, this year’s forum will be attended by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
