Russians vote for connecting the villages to 4g mobile communications

Russians vote for connecting the villages to 4g mobile communications

Voting will be open until November 15th. Residents of villages with a population of 100 to 500 people from all regions, except for Moscow and St. Petersburg, will be able to take part in it. Moscow and St. Petersburg are not part of the programme to eliminate the digital divide, which has been implemented in the country since 2014. It is assumed that by 2030, mobile communications within the framework of the programme will become available in more than 24 thousand Russian villages.

To participate in the vote, you need a confirmed account on the public services portal and permanent registration in the region for which the vote was cast. In addition, you can send a paper letter to the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media.

The formed list of two thousand villages, which are to be connected to high-speed Internet next year, will be published on public services portal in two months. So, in 2022, at least 10 percent of all villages with a population of 100 to 500 people will receive access to 4G, and in 2024 their number will be increased to 30 percent.

Earlier, at a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko together with mobile operators to resolve the issue of ensuring communications along the roads, where problems with signal quality persist.

The head of state noted that operators are running out of licenses. So he suggested to discuss what obligations telecom operators could undertake “to solve such nationwide problems”.
